Library

The Mythic Society library with a collection of about 46,000 books is well known among scholars and is a valuable and rare repository for young researchers and scholars. As part of expansion we are digitizing the library.

About

The library is the most valuable asset the Society has. It was started with the generous donation of a huge collection of books by Rev. Tabard himself. Sir Hugh Daly showed keen interest in the building up of the library and it was at his instance that the Government of India and the various Presidency Governments put the Mythic Society on the mailing list of their publications. A collection at the Mysore Secretariat Library was also transferred to this library. Patna Raghavendra Rao, Hugh Daly, Dewan T. Ananda Rao, Resident H.V. Cobb, K.V.Ramaswamy Iyengar etc., contributed their personal collections. Financial contributions too came from many quarters to the library. Gradually it started adding good/important books and journals related to Indology, History and Philosophy. Society became member of the Royal Asiatic society (Calcutta).

Collections:

Some of the important collection in repository of the library are: Archaeology – All ASI publications, Inscriptions& Epigraphy volumes, Gazetteers, Census volumes, History volumes, PHISPC series, Encyclopedia Volumes on Architecture, Puranas, Sculpture, Culture, Religion etc., rare maps of Bengaluru, separate section for Bengaluru and Mysore has been created. At present our collection consists of about 46000 books and separate sections: About 1600 books in Sanskrit , About 11000 books Kannada, About 24000 books English, and Back volumes of journals about 10000 and about 60 research journals. Library maintains catalogue systems (Card system, Traditional type) for checking books by Author, Title, Subject. entire our collection is computerized and good data base for checking the availability of any document and which can be searched even from web-site.

ಮಿಥಿಕ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ

ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಅಂಗವೆನಿಸಿರುವ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯವು ರೆವರೆಂಡ್ ತಬಾರ್ಡ್ ಅವರ ಸ್ವ-ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ದೇಣಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ಆಗಿನ ರೆಸಿಡೆಂಟ್ ಸರ್ ಹ್ಯೂಗ್ ಡಾಲಿಯವರ ಹಿತಾಸಕ್ತಿ, ಉತ್ಸುಕತೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಟ್ಟಡ ಹಾಗೂ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರೆ ಪ್ರಾಂತೀಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗಳು ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತಾಯಿತು. ಮೈಸೂರು ಸೆಕ್ರೆಟರಿಯಟ್ ಲೈಬ್ರರಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಪಟ್ನಾ ರಾಘವೇಂದ್ರರಾವ್, ಸರ್ ಹ್ಯೂಗ್ ಡಾಲಿ, ದಿವಾನ್ ಟಿ. ಆನಂದ ರಾವ್, ರೆಸಿಡೆಂಟ್ ಹೆಚ್. ವಿ. ಕಬ್, ಕೆ. ವಿ. ರಾಮಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಐಯಂಗಾರ್ ಮುಂತಾದವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿತ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ದೇಣಿಗೆ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯದ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ಭಾಗಗಳಿಂದ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಹಣಕಾಸಿನ ದೇಣಿಗೆಯೂ ಬರಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿ ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಇಂಡಾಲಜಿ, ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ತತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಧರ್ಮ, ಕಲೆ & ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ, ಮಾನವಿಕ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ವಿಷಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾದ ಆಕರ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಲು ಆರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ಇದು ಕಲ್ಕತ್ತದ ರಾಯಲ್ ಏಷಿಯಾಟಿಕ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಯ ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆ, ಇತರೆ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಂದ ಸಂಶೋಧನ ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆ, ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು, ಸಂಶೋಧಕರು, ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವಿಷಯತಜ್ಞರ ಸಲಹೆ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಆಕರ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ತರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿನ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಡಿಜಿಟೈಜ್ ಮಾಡಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಕಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ, ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷ್ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯ 46000ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆಯಿದ್ದು, ವಿಭಾಗವಾರು, ವಿಷಯವಾರು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಗ್ರಂಥಭಂಡಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಕಲೆ-ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ, ತತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಧರ್ಮ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಮಾನವಿಕ ವಿಷಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಆಕರ ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು & ಮೈಸೂರು ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಅಪರೂಪದ ನಕಾಶೆಗಳು, ಆಕರಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ

ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳು:

ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಪುರಾತತ್ವ, ಸಂಗೀತ, ಕಲೆ-ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯ, ಭಾಷಾಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ತತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಧರ್ಮ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಸಂಶೋಧನಾಧಾರಿತ ಸುಮಾರು 250ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಯ 8000ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಂಪುಟ/ಸಂಚಿಕೆಯ ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕೆಗಳ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು, ಆಲ್ಪಬೆಟ್ ಆಧಾರಿತವಾಗಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯವು ಲೇಖಕ, ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆ, ವಿಷಯವಾರು ಆಧಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಕರಗಳ ಹುಡುಕುವಿಕೆಗಾಗಿ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಕ್ಯಾಟಲಾಗ್ ಪದ್ದತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಇ-ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ತಂತ್ರಾಂಶ ಆಧಾರಿತ ಡಾಟಬೇಸ್ ಪದ್ದತಿಯನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ, ಸಂಶೋಧಕರಿಗೆ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ತತ್-ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊರೆಯುವಂತೆ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲ ಪುಟದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ಹುಡುಕುವಿಕೆಗಾಗಿ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯದ ಪರಾಮರ್ಶನ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ 30 ಓದುಗರು/ಸಂಶೋಧಕರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಕ್ಕೆ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
